Battery Giant is Committed to Protecting the Environment

In order for businesses to be long term winners, they must make a genuine connection between their environmental soundness and their sustainable operations and policies. At Battery Giant, we have accomplished this. Simply, we staunchly support the battery industry’s determination to conserve natural resources and prevent rechargeable batteries from entering the solid waste stream.  Battery Giant proudly supports a national program called Call2Recycle that helps consumers conveniently recycle their used rechargeable batteries and old cell phones. At Call2Recycle, Battery Giant joins forces with other members of the rechargeable battery industry to fund a program that educates the public on the benefit of recycling rechargeable batteries — batteries commonly found in products such as cellular and cordless telephones, cordless power tools, laptop computers, two-way radios, camcorders, and a variety of other portable electronic products as well as cell phones.

There are approximately 200 million cell phones currently in use in the United States alone, with 130 million retired each year. The average American family, for example, has a total of three or more cell phones and five cordless electronic products in its possession.  When these cell phones and devices no longer hold a charge, they need to be placed in the hands of those with the ability to safely recycle them… people like the environmental experts at Call2Recycle.

The industry claims that lead-acid batteries are the environmental success story of our time. They base this claim on the fact that more than 97 percent of all battery lead is recycled, compared to 55% of aluminum soft drink and beer cans, 45% of newspapers, 26% of glass bottles and 26% of tires.  These numbers suggest that lead-acid batteries top the list of the most highly recycled consumer product. Battery Giant has contributed to these impressive numbers. In 2008, for example, we collected and recycled over 1,000,000 tons of lead acid batteries — making us one of the largest collection sites in North America. All of our batteries for recycling went to EPA Pad #, Part B permitted recycling facility. Our recycler recycles virtually 100% of the spent battery and is an environmental model for the lead smelting industry.

We are confident that Battery Giant products will indeed be long-term winners. We invite you, our valued customers, to join us in our charge to protect the environment by bringing in your old cell phones and rechargeable batteries to any Battery Giant retail location.
